If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Down and Out in Casino Parking Lot

yesterday my ol and i loaded up the 850 and road tripped to a town about 60 miles away. we got a room in a not too bad motel and then rode about 10 miles to a casino. the slots were brutal on us. after losing more than $20 each we got on the bike and it would not start.

standing there in the dark parking lot with nowhere to go i felt like such a LOSER.

i'm sure there have been folks that were worse off but it really hit me ya know?

happy ending - by the time i found the broken wire i had the side covers off, gas tank off, headlight out, windshield off, seat off and a spark plug hanging out. a friendly passerby gave me some duct tape to cover the wire repair and we put it back together and started to head out. before we got out of the huge dark parking lot it stalled again. i had forgotten to reconnect the petcock vacuum line. oy.

this morning, before heading home we stopped at the casino again and i won back most of my money so i had enough for gas.

the moral - um, i really don't know. something like "gambling is bad, sorta".

Which wire was broken ?
Riding 30 year old bikes on roads with cars out to kill you around every turn is gamble enough ;). Casino slot machines direct deposit into the casino owners bank accounts.

ya know i didn't even find out exactly where the wire goes that broke. all i knew was when i wiggled it the bike started and/or stalled. it's a group of three wires that goes into the headlight bucket. i'll figure it out when i do a permanent repair, probably over the winter.

as far as gambling goes, believe it or not, i'm still ahead in the game due to a big win on my last birthday. it is fun but also scary. some amount of discipline is necessary. from what i've seen we're pretty much small time amateurs.

True, this is still actual. I think a lot of gamblers have switched from "real" slot machines to online analogues https://casinobetsites.com/online-slots/ , the choice of online gambling games is huge today (I personally play LeoVegas from time to time).

Consider yourself lucky that you got into the casino.

The two that are somewhat local here have both shut down.

.

You made it to where you needed to be and where able to figure it out the problem under less than ideal circumstances. That's not a setback, that's an endorsement of your ability to head into an unknown situation and make it out just fine.

Well this is an oldie. I totally agree Mr. Sam dorn. My wife and I do still waste our quarters.

Here's the thing... they have great food, live music, free coffee (unless you're losing bad. Then it's effectively really expensive coffee).

I rate casinos above hanging at a bar but definitely below riding the bike or wandering in the woods.

So far the local gaming joints are open but cut capacity to about half of normal.

I enjoy the (very) occasional trip to Vegas to play blackjack. When people question my smarts/judgement I say, "Hey, pretty woman in short skirts bring me free beer."
They realize then that I'm not quite as dumb as I look. :)

Good story of the situation, and that you perservered and recovered.

Myslef, I would have liked to know more specific what the symptoms were (other than not start), and how you trouble shot it.

But, good that you salvaged the trip and got back home on the bike.

Seems that this Sam Dorn, that revived this 4 year old tread, has done that a lot. About once a month adds to a old tread, some comment that may or may not be directly pertinent to the specifics of the discussion.

Either someone good with the search function ...... or Bot bot bot.

Interesting.

I think the wire that broke was to or from the ignition. I may have routed it wrong during an earlier repair. Then it was rubbing and wore down to bare.

Oh god, "THE LOOK". One hell of a motivator, in my experience. :)

She'll still ride with me but I had better not do anything as stupid as running out of gas!

Or this, "I checked the radar and we're going to get there before the rain. No problem."

This is good reading and made me laugh, so thanks to Eli and Sam Dorn ... bot or not!
