A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Goin' German and Italian for a change

Thanks, guys. The BMW is home with it's owner, Tobin. He was pleased. The Moto Guzzi cut and buff is all that's left, and that should wrap up this 3-month session.

The BMW and the Moto Guzzi V7 Sport are finally done.

Thanks to both Tobin and Simon for their patience. The BMW is home, and the V7 soon will be.

Thanks for following along. It's been a fun ride.

Ah Larry, you've done it again! :D

Love your work!

It is so worth the patience and effort when you see that end result, and you're going to have to get the guys to send you some pic's of the finished bikes to post so you can finish the thread out nicely.

I've enjoyed your company, Pete. Thanks for the kind words. Simon was here at 9:00 this morning..2 1/2 hour drive for he and his wife, Karen. Lovely couple. We hung out visiting for several hours before they left with the parts. He was happy with the results. Both Simon and Tobin promise finish pics. Simon said the Guzzi will be back together by this afternoon. Can't wait to see them. Out of all the bikes I've done, I've only seen a couple of them all done and assembled. An RC30 Honda was one I really wanted to see but never did.

Truly world class work there Larry. You set the bar HIGH!

Thanks, Ed. It means a lot coming from you.

I got a chance to do something I enjoy. Re-made connections with some friends, hung out with them and their wives. Made a few bucks to boot. Life is good. :)

That's the important stuff Larry, doing something you enjoy and hanging out with friends, life is good indeed!

Simon sent me a few pics of his V7 Sport all back together again. I like the license surround on the last one as kind of an homage to where he found the bike leaning against outside for so many years. Cool bike, man. Check out that front brake.

Still waiting to see Tobin's BMW, but it's still in the assembly process.

What was the plastic filler you used? I'm about to paint my first tank, and have a lot of questions...mainly around what products to use for prep. My knowledge goes as far as Bondo, but I know there are a lot of more modern products out there...

Try and buy the best products available. A bit more expensive in the short term, but way cheaper in the long run. I always try and discourage people from using "Bondo" brand filler, specifically. It's cheap and easy to find but a terrible product compared to what's available. Go to an auto body paint store and get the good stuff. Ask the people there lots of questions. Tell them exactly what you're doing and what advice they recommend. That's what they do. You can buy a good filler in small amounts that come in a squeeze tube including the hardener for a very reasonable price. More then enough to do one bike. Same with your cleaners, reducers, primers, base coats, clear...even your sandpapers and tapes. Get quality materials. It's all available in a "system" that guarantees all the products will play nicely together...saving you tearing your hair out with mis-matched materials that can ruin everything in a heartbeat.

What can anyone say but Larry is a master craftsman who sets the standard when comes to motorcycle and automotive painting. I hope the owners loving take care of their respective paint jobs because they are indeed fortunate to have had Larry bestow his magic on their bikes.

Although no painter, I would agree with the Master. Get the best material, filler, paint etc.

3M acquired Bondo Corp in 2007, and 3M makes some right fine products. I used Bondo Ultimate body filler when working my last few projects and it's good stuff. As for paint, I used PPG on a number of projects and love that stuff...but it's ungodly expensive and PPG discourages sales to the public. I've been using House of Kolor base/clear lately and it's pretty good stuff. To be honest, all the newer low VOC paints are a downgrade compared to the older stuff in my opinion, but it's the only game in town these days. At any rate, there are a lot of good products out in the market. At various price ranges. Google search for reviews when in doubt.

Tobin, the man I painted the parts for his BMW has sent me a few pics of the finished project. Man, this guy does nice work. It looks brand new. Very happy to have had a hand in it. Love this bike.

I'll never be satisfied with just three pics, I'll ask for more pics outside and both sides, but for now, it gives a good idea of how nice this bike turned out. ;)
