A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So....after losing two BMW K1100RSes, here and here....I decided to take a different tack....

Introducing my new-to-me, 1999 R1100S...

Came with BMW hard bags and mounts, heated grips, after market belly pan and lowered foot pegs.

Nice thats a cool looking, funky in a good way ride. May you get many good and safe miles on it. Enjoy

You're going to like the heck out of it. The classic pulse of a boxer is like nothing else. I swapped my RT with a friend's S for a while and really enjoyed it.

Nice acquisition.

Beautiful motorcycle, and its not red. I love my R1100RS and I'm sure you will to. :)

Beautiful looking machine - I'm jealous...

Agree! Awesome machine.

Rear seat doesn't look overly comfy. Is this a solo machine? Wouldn't blame your wife if she doesn't want to ride anymore but just asking.

BTW, there was an 1100RT on ebay set to end today, but the seller ended the auction early for some reason. Bike was right here in town and was tracking toward a reasonably low price (never know with auctions though of course). Kind of bummed but oh well.

Actually, from what I read it's not too bad. Especially if I replace the stock seat.
Obviously not as comfy as an RS or RT, but much more comfy than most sport bikes.

Wife doesn't know if, or when, she will want to ride again...so I got this.
With the hard bags I can make some weekend trips, and still enjoy the ride.
If she decides she wants to try two up again, we can use this, or we have the 1100E.
And if she decides to ride with me again full time, than I will buy something else.

I made it clear to her that whether or not she rides, and how much she rides, is completely up to her.

What kind of price?

I need to sell mine.

Prices are all over the map...
I was talking to a guy in Tennessee with a very nice, 2000 with 8K miles for $5700....

And another 2002 with 60K miles in northern Wisconsin for $4100
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=897685

My '99 showed up on CL yesterday, about 30 minutes away. Asking $3950 without the hard bags and mounts, got it for $4100 with the hard bags and mounts.
43K miles

A Rhinewest chip is the ticket. I had an R1150GS that had one and a Remus exhaust. The performance gain is supposed to be very noticeable. Fuel economy goes down, though....about 4-5 mpg. The PO had the work done, so I didn't get to experience the difference. All I know is that the thing ran circles around the 1150RT and my friend's 1200GS.

A Throttlemeister would be a nice addition if going on superslab runs.

That is one very nice looking machine Bob. Glad to see you are getting right back on the horse. I just picked up one very special '85 K100 (maybe the only one like it in the US) last week Bob. Will be introducing it here next week. Will probably be picking the brains of you and other BMW guys for sure.

Nice bike. The S was always my favorite of the recent Boxer Twins. I had my wife sit on the back of one at the dealer last year and she thought it was comfortable, or at least roomy enough.
