A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Okay guys, so far I've taken my 550 out of seven year storage, stripped the carbs and cleaned them intensively, installed a set of points and timed them using Earl's method, but the bike still won't go. There's plenty of compression and plenty of spark, but I have new plugs in the bike and can't tell how wet they're getting. Any suggestions as to what to try next?

You never said if you checked to see if fuel is actually getting to the cylinders. I would suggest trying that.

Well I am probably not the one to be answering questions, since I took my carbs all apart and put them back, but I have not tried to start mine yet. Anyway, I did fill the carbs while they were in the vise and found you need a lot of gas to fill the bowls all the way. The end two carbs get filled after the center two fill up, so I would slowly take the two outside carb bowl drain screws out to see if there is gas in the bowls. If there is none there check the center two. I was messing around with the petcock and if you didn't prime them it looks like it will take a long time unless you are in the prime position. Anyway I would check to see if all carbs have gas.

cv's

cv's

If its got cv's fitted, they can sometimes exhibit weird effects after theyve been off and emptied, Ive had to choke them by hand with my hands over the inlets before now on quite a few bikes, and the bike's sort of started on the cylinder I was choking and dragged the other 3 in one by one. My pain in the bum 550 used to do this after Id taken the carbs off to clean them (yet again)..
Weird because every time the bikes been fine at starting and ran sweet as a nut since..
I had spark, fuel tap on prime, the lot, still cant work it out... :?: :?: :?:

Thanks for the help Guys. I will let you know how it turns out.

Craig
