I've been researching on the forums here while trying to build my GS and get her running. Hopefully by the time winter has come and gone she will be ready to ride.
Background; Purchased the frame, (79' GS1000e), motor (82' GS1100 16 valve) and some other components (Gas tank, shocks, etc.) from El Giablo a few months ago. As far as parts, I pretty much had a complete bike just needed to be cleaned up and reassembled. Looking at the old original parts and wanting something a little more current, I decided to take a different route with the build and update the wheels, brakes, front forks, from a GSXR and go for a cafe-fighter end result.
Anyhow, at this point everything has been assembled, Just in need of a new seat, and tail light. Along the way I purchased a Yoshimura 4:1 exhaust and K&N pod filters to let her breathe. I fully dipped, cleaned, and reassembled the carbs (Mikuni BS-CV) using the proper method as documented on BikeCliff's website. Replaced the O-Rings, gaskets, the whole nine. At this stage I thought it would be smart to install the DynoJet stage III kit to support the aftermarket exhaust and filters.
So the now rebuilt carbs were assembled with the Dynojet mains (DJ138's) the needles were set at the third groove from the top, and the slides were drilled as specified by the Dynojet instructions. All of the other stock components were cleaned and installed, as the kit does not specify the need to change these parts out. I also purchased new intake boots and clamps so I could eliminate at least one issue if problems were ever to arise.
Today I installed the carbs, got the bike started and idling fairly well. Mixture screws at 2.5 turns out. Everything seems fine however, the throttle drop-down or return-to-idle speed seems delayed and sluggish. Not so much hanging up and staying up, just not returning as fast as it should be. I blip the throttle expecting it to return quickly and it just seems to be dragged out instead. The throttle cable has absolutely no hang ups, and the butterflies open and snap shut with ease, much like I would expect the Revving to be like. Sorry for the life story of an introduction, but any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
