A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

this sounds like a silly question, but i have a real hard time figuiring out my vin#. i will send pics later to show what i am referring to, but here's vin# which is also my frame#. GS110x-702973. from what i understand there's a year somewhere down there where you have only 11 numbers. also from what i understand i should be looking for a number that starts w/ a J. and there's the 17 number i should be looking for, haven't found none of these. i got this number from the frame (which is also stamped on it) up top behind the headlight. any help would be greatly apprieciated. thanks.

You're looking at the engine number. The VIN is on the steering head, either stamped into it or on a sticker.:)

trying to post pics atm, but mine looks very close to the L model but it's chain drive. (atm she looks ratty, but she's mine :) )

The '80 1100L was chain drive.

(8 valve engine, right Bill?) <<<inside joke please dis-regard

o cool. that somes up alot of confusion ;) . lol i don't have enuf space to tell you what i have been told what i have :).

http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss304/smokienutz/Picture0417.jpg here's a crappy cell phone pic of my bike (lol ignore the car in the pic) i took on the way home from sacramento after i bought. 3hr trip turn into 8hrs of jumping it and relizing how freaking cold cali weather can be :). and here's a pic of what i am looking at.. look at where my finger is pointing, the white/bright letters says VIN, and nothing after it. http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss304/smokienutz/Picture0425.jpg
and thanks again for the help. it's greatly appriciated. lol screw engrish i want a mechanic's class :).
o lol n the top of the sticker, it say it was built in 5/?. that part was rubbed out. the info i am giving is what was told to me.

Replace what, the seat?
Please dont.. Thats prolly one of the best looking L's I've seen yet.
Amazing how a seat can change the entire look of a bike.

Okay, the long version...

when I first started on this board, I told Bill there was no way his bike had a 16 valve engine (a rookie mistake) I kid Him from time to time about my ignorant comment.

and yes, IIRC He's down to a 12 valve 3 cylinder model.

so that would make him Chef1024.5 ????

well on the seat... i need more cushin for my tush :) so if y'all know a way to keep that look and provide a better ride i am down:).. and it is a 16v. i am into the DOHCs. i used to have a 1980 cb750 DOHC and i loved that girl, till the back wheel locked up on me lol doing 80:). was a fun trip, but i'll never do that again :).
o plus it's tuff w/ this seat to have a rider. some reason the passenger wants to push me into the tank lol. my biscuits don't appriciate that too much . those r the reasons i am into looking into a new seat.

I, for one, don't like the seat. I think it would look much better with a proper L seat on it. And, you would not have any problems with the rear rider pushing you into the tank with a proper seat.

Yup a GS1100LT.

I have a perfectly good "L" banana seat stock model off of my 850 if you're interested. It has a new saddlemen quilted seat cover on it, no lock (that's on my king/queen) and you'll have to put the rubber seat blocks on it. PM me if you're interested.
