I never liked the prominant radiator

But I saw an early 80's V-45 Honda this morning that looked like it was made last night. Somebody took care of it.

Gosh, I must be really lucky, none of my GS's ever overheated, even without a radiator. Also never heard of a radiator leak, hose leak, fan nor fan relay bad, on any GS. But I did have to replace the fan switch on my KZ1300, that had a radiator & a small hose on the wife's Kawa 600 Eliminator that also had a radiator.

The Sabre was a really nice machine, especially in 750 format. The 1100 pulled like a freight train but was bigger and more top-heavy. The Magna was never particularly aesthetically pleasing until the Super Magna came out, and on the Interceptors, the radiator wasn't too prominent due to fairings.

The Suzuki GT750 had a big radiator, is it ugly? I don't think so.

The GT750? lets just say it's got a radiator that only a mother could love....

The CX V-Twins had very prominent radiators as well. My brother owned two (a 500 custom and 650 Silverwing). I never really thought they detracted from the bikes' appearance.

You almost don't see it at all on the Silver Wing.

Many years ago, I had an Aprilia for a couple years that was liquid-cooled, but until I bought the Triumph this year, that had been my only radiator experience.

It was a Magna, the Sabres looked better to me. The GT750 radiator doesn't look that bad, somehow.

Sabers with a factory sport fairing made a killer touring bike. Fast, good handling, shaft drive, liquid cooling..a really nice combo.

awww memories firing synapses long assumed dead
beware nostalgia
water buffalo an 1300 kawi had honking huge heat sinks
if i can self declare my self anything regardless of reality how can you sad old bastards detract from a beauty born of function?

Just wondering, I've got several miles on air cooled KZ's, CB's, & mostly GS's, plus all the miles others riding with me have logged in. We've spent many days at the drag strip, on local roads, trying to act like Wes Cooley, rode my GS1000 thru Oklahoma 117 degree heat, rode an 858 mi. day on interstate 40 @ 80 to 90 mph on a 93 degree day & night from Norene TN. to Tologa OK, etc. etc. I never remember seeing a modern air cooled bike overheat, or if it did we never knew it. Surely they did, but has anyone ever seen it?

Do you consider H-Ds to be "modern"? Many have reported rear cylinder overheating issues while riding in city traffic on hot days.

Harleys are so "modern" that their engineers found out that if you turn off the rear cylinder when it is at idle, it does not get so hot! What will they think of next?

Maybe they will make them like the new Ford F-150's that shut down completely when stopped at a red light.

Still love my Street Glide for long trips!

Check out this bad azz custom radiator!

You want a radiator? Look no farther than a Boss Hoss.

Yes, it's big enough to be a car radiator. Mainly because it has to cool a car-sized engine. It's a 383 cubic inch stroker engine with 430 horsepower.

.

"NO", I don't consider the H-D as modern nor what I was talking about. I guess what I meant was did any big four air cooled Japan bikes ie. Kawa. KZs, Honda CBs, Yama. XSs, & Suzuki GSs, under reasonable use, not talking about a GS1000 bored to a 1250, nor a KZ1100 left out in the sunshine on a 98 degree day idling for 4 hrs. Just wondering if anyone had seen any of these bikes overheated, & if so the conditions that it occurred. Today I have both an "83" GS1100E & a Honda CB1100F, both air cooled & seem to do just as well as my oil cooled "99" & "2005" 1200 Bandits or the wife's, water cooled "96" Kawa. 600 Eliminator or my water cooled "2000" .Kawa. ZRX. Only issue, with eng. temp. I've had was on a "water cooled" 1981 Kawa. KZ1300. The first 3 yrs. of the 1300s, the fan switch wouldn't turn the fan on till the temp. gauge was in the red, In town it would get up there pretty quickly, never had a problem, but kind'f nervous when the gauge got in the red. Kawa. upgraded the switch for 1982 to start the fan earlier, I installed an "82" 1300 switch & all was well. Sorry, but I never thought I needed a radiator on a bike, not as long as the air worked with absolutely no problems.
