Hey guys, I have a little GS250T that needs some stiffer suspenders. I am trying to budget this upgrade and have noticed tons of Harley shocks on e-bay.

Do you think the 13" shocks off a Harley dyna or sportster will bolt up without any modifications?

Thanks

Not sure what shocks the 250T has but if 13" long then why not get a set off a GS1000E or GS1100E if eye to clevis or GS850G or 1000G if eye to eye....

They'll probably be as good as the Harley ones & you can probably pick up a set on here for about $20-$30.

What is your budget? If you can afford it you'd be better off going with some Progressives or something.

Hi Mr. Briars,

I've never hear them called "suspenders". :)

Just about any shock will be better than a worn out 30 year old stock shock. Are they eye-to-eye or eye-to-clevis? If the Harley shocks are the same length they would probably work but I don't know what kind of handling you'd get. There are some shock recommendations below in your "mega-welcome". :D

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

What I can offer, is the shocks off of a Dyna and the shocks off of a Sportster are two totally different animals. The Dyna has the shocks mounted several inches forward of the axle, and the Sportster has them mounted right above the axle. The extra leverage on the Dyna shock means the springs must be much stronger. So, if anything - try some from a Sportster. Just remember, Sporties weigh close to 500 pounds.

I have a set I can sell, eye to eye.
I have no idea what they came off of but they look brand new except for some "modding" I had to do to fit em on the a 850.
Ya cant tell.
Pm me!

Thanks for the welcome and the reply's.

They are eye to eye and I was leaning to the 883 sportster for a donor. I need a heavy duty spring so I think they will work well considering the weight difference of the two bikes.

As far as handling I wont be dragging any knees on that little thing. (but I have managed to drag the pipes without any problem) I think a 1/2" to a 1" back end raise will help the bike with that and turn in.

I was mainly curious if anyone had done it before. However I know there are not that many of those little bikes left. I love mine and plan on keeping it for the duration. My plan is to use it for commuting to work, but just enough to keep it running well.

I really want to get a gs750E soon. I had a buddy that had a 77 or 78 blue one and we rode the crap out of that thing as kids. He passed away a few years back and every time I see one it brings back some great memory's.

Again thanks for the help, I have been following this site for sometime and plan on hanging around for awhile.
