Hey Guys how's it going!?
I'm Glad i found a gs forum! I just Picked up a Gs750Tz that I'm working on! I just got the bike awhile ago1 and there are definitely some wireing issues, I got the bike in a few milk crates of parts, I was told that the motor is out of a 79 gs 750 into the frame of an 82 gs it was swapped out because the bike was laid down. the guy who had the bike b4 me did some of the wiring. not to sure what he was trying to do?

right now im using the 82 dash and ignition switch, because the 79 the one that got laid down and the dash is busted!

can i use the 82 wiring harness and dash? to power the bike? i put a battery on the bike and nothing happened i traced most of the wires and still nothin? ill post some pics as soon as i figure out how any help would be awesome!!

Thanks Guys & Gals

heres another shot the wiring is a mess! i got to get power too this rig!

get yourself a wiring diagram and start tracing. It is a fairly simple harness just remember an electrical circuit must contain a supply voltage, some switches and a load it,s that easy.
have fun with the project
Steve

That's NOT a '79 motor.

The '79s were still 8-valve engines with round caps on the ends of the cams.

Your rectangular caps tell me that it's a 16-valve engine, which started in '80.

Your carbs are also the CV-type carbs that started with the '80 bikes.

.

I'm with amx steve, grab a diagram and start tracing. I believe BassCliff has one on his website. The connections on the clusters MIGHT be the same but I'm not 100% sure. I had to cut and splice a 70s cluster onto my 82. Also, I'm diggin the yellow frame. Possible black tank and plastics????

Its not a 79?? thats what i was told but i'm pretty new to this bike stuff Hmm all Good wellL! I got good News!! i was out in my shed till justa bit ago and I GOT Pwer!!! Life is so much easier when you have power to help troubleshoot!! the bike was sittting for quite some time but she's alive! kinda... headlight tailight, indcators and horn all working

Some Bulbs are out some wiring is hacked!! but i will make it work!! She wouldent turn over tho! :( she would kick in the kinda quit, im thinking its eaither its the batt and she done have enough juice to turn it over or the starter? I'm sure you guys can help me out like i said im pretty new to this bike thinG! anyways thanks! Imma post a pictuure of a fuse like thing i found in the odometer part of the speedometer!! I have nO IDea what it is!!! Thanks And Yupp Af Bill Yellow and Black! Bumble Bee!!

what is this? It was in the odometer

what is this? It was in the odometer

I have no idea what this is or what its 4 theres a blue wire with a red tracer and a blace w/ red tracer! going to Strip the paint off my gas tank now!! ill post pics after!

The colors are different, but it looks like the front brake light switch or the clutch safety switch.

.

its weird cus it was in the odomoter right bejhind the kms

OK, good clue. I just looked it up, it's the speed sensor for the auto-cancel turn signals.

By the way, your engine might have been called a '79 by the previous owner if it came from an '80 bike that happened to be made in the last few months of '79. I think the first bikes that are assembled for any model year are actually done in September of the previous year, so your engine that was assembled in 1979 was put in a 1980 model year motorcycle.

.

Front End Swap

Front End Swap

That's not a "T" model front end either. T's had a single disk and that looks like a pre 1982 wheel pattern. A front end change (upgrade?) that included the headlight & clocks might explain some of the wiring issues.

Good Luck in your endeavor...

Oh, and the "T" didn't have self cancelling turn signals...at leat my '82 doesn't.

Gas tank Stripped!

Gas tank Stripped!

I used:
1 can of circa 1981
1 set putty knives
some old rags
and some sand paper!

and done!

what is This?!

what is This?!

so the beast has power! but when i try and start it, it just clicks...and gets Hot? what is this little rig and do i have it wired up right? i tryed it wired both ways, the way its in the pic and the opposite im gon to check a wiring schmatic and see if its wired up right. but im knida stumped could this part be bungged up?
Thanks!

Well I pulled the starter out! cleaned it up a bit and tested it and it worked! when its put in the bike! it kinda turns a bit but not quite a full turn over? Am i Suppose to hold the clutch? also how would i check and to see if the motor is seized! the bike sat for awhile! not really sure how long. What way is the crankshaft suppose to turn? clockwise?

I just thought of this! if the bike is in gear and it's tried to start what will happen?

thanks!

To turn over the engine, remove the ignition cover (the small one on the right) put a wrench on the biggest part and turn clockwise

The bike shouldn't try to start in gear due to the safety switch. If the safety switch has been disconnected, the starter would try to turn the rear wheel and it would move

Make sure the bike is in neutral, then try to rotate the crank to see if the engine is frozen. Rotate clockwise only

ya I'm not sure if it was in Gear i totall? for got to check! lol Thet starter turns then stops? Whats the cover on the left (if your sitting on the bike) I took that one off to see if the starter is moving at all! it is but only a bit the stops. There was a big bolt on that rig and i turned it clockwise and it moved a bit and i herd the air hissing out (spark plug isn't Tight) but then it stops dead? so i dont really wanna just ream on her for fear of breaking something! lol anyways like i said im kinda new to the whole bike thing. I thought that that could have been the crankshaft? but ya Thanks Big T

HydroLocked?

HydroLocked?

If gas is leaking through the petcock (or it's set to prime ;)) the needle valve will let a little fuel by. Let it sit long enough like that and fuel will flood the cylinders. Pull ALL the plugs before you try to rotate the engine again. It only takes one flooded cylinder to lock it up.
