New shoe time

My Triumph came from the factory with Metzler Tourance Next tires. After only 10k miles, it looks like this pic.

Going to switch over to Avon Spirit ST which is what my former Honda wore and seemed to maintain it's rounded profile.

Maybe 10k is going to be the normal mileage on the Triumph but I have to check it out for myself. As Ed (Nessism) says, to measure is to know. Good advice.

Have you considered the Michelin Road 5?

I have not. I've had the Avon in my basement since April so I will have to evaluate it compared to the Metzler that came on the bike.

Also a huge price difference between the Avon and the Michelin Road 5. $136 for the Avon and $197 for the Michelin in the size I need. For that much more it would have to give me a LOT more mileage. Performance is probably a wash between the two brands.

Friend of mine just bought the Mojolever stuff to go on the Harbor Freight stand. I'm looking forward to trying it out..! Looks like a reasonable cheap alternative to the No Mar kit.

I have the Mojolever and it is a tool I would NOT want to be without.

How much do you think your trip up north on the slab contributed to that tire wearing like it did? Just wondering, as my Triumph has a rear that has started to show signs of being "flat" in the center.

PO said that almost all of his miles were on straight roads, and it was under-inflated by about 6 psi when I got it.

I wonder if it will continue to get "flatter" or will it eventually get it's shape back if it is inflated properly and ridden on some twistier roads sometimes?

Short answer. A lot. Of my 10k miles, probably only about 3k has been on somewhat twisty roads. It's unfortunate that I live in an area where I have to travel 6-7 hours to get to twisty roads.

Air pressure for sure is something that I am very OCD about. I check the tire air pressure every day before ever getting on the bike. I am so OCD that I take my air gauges into tire stores and have them tested occasionally. If they are not accurate within 2 psi +/- then they go bye bye.

What brand and model tire does your new toy wear?

Living where you do, I would think you have a good chance of gaining a bit of the profile back. Start dragging your knees in those curves and the wear will improve :cheerful:.

Its wearing Pirelli Angel ST's and the rear "seems" to be regaining some of the profile after about 400+ miles with proper inflation. Time will tell!

I'd have thought that is normal, yours may be a little worse than some others. The part of NE I was in NE, I couldn't believe how few hills & curves were there. That's why the dual compound tires were developed.
