A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New toy- KZ1000 Police

Honda 900F for a Kawasaki KZ1000 police bike??? NO, NAW, NADA, NEVER EVER!!!!!! That's my opinion, & it ought to be yours.

I still like the GS better. Honda seems to only get about 25 mpg or thereabouts. Could be the severe wind we have here most of the time. Yes, the Honda DOES handle better, but no real curvy roads to take advantage of that where I live.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Carry on. :)

Spent some more time, between rain drops...
Tank and fender paint are great. A little wax goes a long way. Most chrome is coming back to life.
Tank has no fuel gauge?
Is valve adjust procedure same as GS but with different diameter shims?
Suggestions on exhaust pipe wax / cleaner / treatment?

Cool cop bike.

Honda guys should exit and start their thread.

Seriously though, I wonder if there was any factory modifications to the Police Specials? Like a ported head, bigger carburetors/valves, brakes...

Uh, no. The reason the Honda came up was the thought one poster had of selling his 900f in order to get a Police 1000. Opinions on that are warranted.

No major motor differences other than charging system stuff from what I have read. I once thought of buying one when a bunch of them appeared on CL for an auction. They had run-flat tires at one point (maybe all of them did), but aside from those details, most of it is aesthetic-seat, bars, lights, fairing, etc.

I just looked back at the original pic and noticed the shocks for the drivers seat and the beefy structure holding the front lights. Neat stuff...

I want this seat !!! think it's a one-off custom? Look familiar to anyone?

And it's gone. In the end, all I did was battery, clean carbs, fix petcock, replaced all brake hoses, rebuilt all calipers, and both m/c.
Buyer is "one of us"... but not a Suzuki devotee. I rode it for 100 yrds for the very first time, as he arrived to buy it. Big, heavy, pretty comfy.
Buyer has played with many bikes, plans on making it look much nicer, then off to ebay for profit.
I'm sure I'll see it again, buyer lives less than a mile from me !

edit - yes, they were run-flats from 1978. other forums call them "marbles, when new. They didn't age well, either." I did not get over 20 mph.
