If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi.

This is my first post. I tried searching for an answer to my problem with no luck.

I?m the lucky owner of a GS 750 79?(my first bike) and I'm just getting started to learn how to maintain it.

I have changed oil and oil filter but now has a problem.

When I put the oil filter cover back on and try to put the acorn nuts back on, they just keep spinning without locking. Its like all three nuts just lost their grip. Do I just buy three new nuts or is the problem somewhere else?

Thank you.

Are the bolts that come through the oil cover stripped? Is the filter cover pushed back and seated all the way? Do the threads inside the acorn nuts look stripped?

It's possible the thread are a bit stripped, but there is no guarantee that it is the nuts. Just to be sure, change the studs, too.

A good place to get them is Parts Outlaw. The parts you want are #13 and #14 on this fiche

Your bonus for the day: when you get to the checkout window, enter the word BANG in the promo code area, you will get free shipping.

Put two 10mm head nuts on the stud and turn and lock them together. now use a wrench and the back nut to extract the stud. Take that stud to the auto parts place and youll find blister carbs with exhaust studs...match them up.

And yes the stock corns are crap and strip easily. Home Depot or the local Ace or True Value will have acorns. Shouldnt be all that expensive and youll spend more time getting to the stores than it will take to swap studs and nuts. Loctite the new studs in. Insert them using the same two nut method and a socket. Once in , unlock the nuts and put the cover on.

EDIT....some propane torch heat on the inner wall of the filter well along side the studs wil help loosen things if theres factory loctite in there..makes life a lot easier for you to heat the area pretty good.

Thanks - but I dont think they ship to Denmark. But now I know what to look for.

It happened to me on one of my bikes a couple of years ago...just try buying regular nuts first. That's what I did and all is good.

Thank you everybody for your swift reply's

I?ll try to change both the studs and the nuts.

This is a brilliant forum!

It's quite helpful if people fill out their forum profile, including location. That potentially could save someone here from wasting their time researching part sources here in the US, where the majority of the GSR members live.

I know. Sorry. I just realized and filled it out.

Steve,

Promo code BANG no longer works. Been waiting on a new one for free shipping. I'm sitting on an order till then.

Thanks for the notification, I will stop mentioning that.

Even if you have to pay for shipping, they have a flat rate of $9.99, which isn't all that bad, depending on the size of your order.

That code is bad as well. I know of no current code that works. Both BANG and OUTLAWLIFE expired as of March 3rd.

Well guess someone needs to see if they can strike another deal with Chad..their internet sales manager guy.

The Suzuki part numbers normally include the length and diameter of bolts and nuts. If you look at the Fiche sent by Steve you can figure it out. Look at items 3 and 4. 6 mm x 30 mm and 6 mm x 25 mm bolts. you can find 6 mm in the acorn nuts mart no. The studs are probably 20 mm according to the part number.

There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, it is simple and convenient.

I am having the same issue. I replaced the studs and got new acorns. Put them in and stripped the new stud immediately. Changed stud again still leaking. Changed acorn to normal nut thought I got it tight enough and it's still leaking........suggestions?
