A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm looking for pics of customized "E" model GS's to give me a few finishing ideas. Full-out restored to crazy, "what the F*** is that" modifieds, I don't care, link or post pic.

It's strange, I bought my '81 GS750EX because the price was right ($150), it was mostly there and I was DYING to get back on two wheels. After two Shadows, an Ironhead Sportster (NEVER AGAIN!!!), and a CB750 chopper, I thought an EX "sportbike" was one of the ugliest things I'd ever laid eyes on, but like I said, two wheels. I figured I'd get it running, get it as close to "pretty" as I could, sell it to the first chump I could and get back to cruisers/choppers.

The damn things grow on you like a wart.

I thought, "well, I'll turn it into a chopper". Chain drive, inline four, same as my CB750 chopper. Then I found this site. Saw some seriously modded GS's that kept the flavor of the E models. Saw how easy it was to upgrade things like suspension, brakes, rims. Started thinking about what I could do to mine.

You guys suck!

Now, granted, if I win the lottery I'm going to buy an Intruder (NOT a Boulevard, an original Intruder) instead of a GSXR. But damn if that 750E hasn't grown on me.

Here's my '79 GS1000E.
I wanted to keep most of the original look and ergonomics but with some upgrades. I basically improved on the finish by making everything shinier. Everything black is powdercoat. Many of the mods can't be seen. 1085 pistons/Dyna system/welded crank/welded HD clutch basket/Electrex RR.....130,000 miles and counting.

This is a little more WTF. i see some nice looking GSs so far.
A little Russian a Little german But mostly the Industrial musician in me lol

WTH

I used to be able to go to motorcycle specs.com and get listings for almost every bike ever made. Apparently he's redone the sight and deleted the listings. Now I've got to go to Bike bandit or Bikez to figure out an l from an e or c. and i should know this stuff. besides the tank on one year is not the same as the tank on another. (my personal favorite, an L with just a few? mods.)

The 81 e has the collapsed tank much like the ball peen cafe racers done up on this sight. But will that tank fit other models or is a ballpeen just cheaper and frankly more fun. Given one of the previous threads, I'd say a hammer is just the solution. (and a hacksaw)

oh and Lets not forget the square headlight/unicluster

I had a chance to pick one up ( an 81) cheap recently for $900, unfortunately i had to pass (the guy was getting deployed for the third time and had to sell)

Major mods on the 81 e would be to use the tank and go with the cafe look, throw on on of those small fairings, and chop the seat/taillight.

Or just restore it.

Ya know , I seem to be confusing the 81's with the 80's... so disregard the above mentioned comments.

What kind of fairing is that? It's exactly what my bro-in-law's looking for to put on his Nighthawk. And are those stock '83 rims? How hard would it be to put a set of those on an '81 GS750EX? Size?
