Pinstriping my first time.

Any do's or don'ts I need to keep in mind?

I think I can take this on myself, I want to pinstripe my tank and side covers. However I am a little concerned on how to do a smooth radius curve at the corners of the tank.

Any other advise is greatly appreciated.

Check Eastwood or try The phone book for painting supplies. I use Mack brushes (swords) and Oneshot brand sign paint. Best advice is practice, practice, practice. I started using old pieces of glass and moved up to an old honda gas tank for the curves. took weeks but i finally got good enough to trust myself on my own cars and bikes. I did my 68 shelby and the wifes cobra kit car. I've even had people want me to stripe their stuff
If you don't want to spend that much time learning,Just get a Bugler pinstripping tool. Eastwood sells them. About a hundred bucks for a basic kit plus the paint.

GT500KR, bought it in 1974 for $2300. 74000 miles(and it's still 95% original). My Summer daily driver is a 1968 GT/CS California Special. I'll pinstripe it too when the bodyman gives it back next spring. As for going to hell, That would probably be for putting a 8-71 blower on my 69 AMX

for doing detail work, you can always correct/modify with a razor blade. just remember to put a little bit of soap on the blade befor you cut.

I have never tried to use a box cutter, but i can tell you the old single razor blades work real dandy.

are you doing real pinstriping or using vinyl?

if you are doing real pinstriping get a good brush and it will make it wayy easier. I use a Mack 00 blue for most stuff.

To get a smooth radius, you would actually move the brush at a decent pace, It will create a radius to however you are pulling it.

That was many moons ago, the car left with the first wife (actually her lawyer got the proceeds of it). I'll see if I can dig up pictures of it and the KR...Jack

I agree, but sometimes a jewel comes into your life. The present Mrs.Mad is one of them. She came with a 12 place gun cabinet that was full, a big block Nova and a KZ900LTD. That was 24 years ago, ....and I still have all around

I too am envious of the AMX, I'd rock out to an AMC before any other muscle car.

As for stripping, I use a trusty Mack 00...research "trimming" the brush on google. I don't remember excactly how as it was like 2 years ago I did mine and I don't want to give you missinformation, however it does make radius's easier...helped alot.

the only trimming I've had to do on my Mack was a stray hair that developed over a few months. Just going at it with a blade is a great way to ruin a good brush.
