The END is near (California guys)

Bought a new gas mower, a few yrs ago, had a warning sticker on it "Do not use indoors"...So, cause of that sticker, I never used it indoors nor underwater

But how on earth are you meant to trim your Astroturf?

In '68 we moved from an apartment to a house. Yay! We got an electric lawnmower. Boo! BIG disappointment. :(

Hey Rob, How long did it take "for you" to learn if you run over the cord, it'll quit running.

I was actually told I would stop running if I ran over the cord, so I was extra careful.

Well, as (bad) luck will have it, my electric Dewalt string trimmer died, again. The second time. First time, under warranty, the speed control went out. Had to drive one hour, round trip, to drop it at an authorized repair facility. Now, outside of warranty, it died again. Good news, though, I was able to repurpose the battery to my drill motor, after buying a $10 battery adapter.

Needing a new trimmer, what did I do? Why I bought TWO. One, an Echo commercial grade 2-stroke gas jobbie. While the sale of new gas lawn equipment is outlawed in California, where I live, apparently, units produced in 2023 can still be sold. I didn't know this before, but happy to learn it. Anyway, that one showed up...but, what I really wanted was a 4-stroke unit. Found a guy on eBay selling some "damaged" Honda 4 stroke Versa-attach power heads, and bought one. The plastic case is cracked, but the unit is new otherwise. Fingers crossed, the motor isn't damaged under the plastic case. Anyway, that one is slated to show up in a day or so, and fingers crossed, it will become my regular driver. If so, the Echo will either go into storage, or be sold. There is a huge market in California for gas powered equipment these days, so I can't see them going down in value anytime soon.

They can have my gas powered lawn equipment when they pry my grandkids cold, dead fingers off his rescue inhaler!

I have a 2 stroke strimmer that I want to get rid of... I hate all forms of yard work! I just gave away a 2 stroke blower to my yard guy. :)

Well, still using my EGO elect. trimmer I've had a couple of yrs. now. Got my old 2 stroke Troy-Bilt out, to flex it up a little for back-up. Found gas line broke and primer bulb cracked. Fixed those things and it fired right up. Been appx 2 yrs since it ran, wondering if the Seafoam it was stored with may have helped.

I rode a two-stroke once or twice. It was a Kawasaki triple! :snowman: But it was only the 400. :blue:
Still, it was a gas! :biggrin-new:

I owned one. A 75' S3 400 Triple. It was my daily rider at the time. It was awful. It stayed in tune for about 5 minutes. Three sets of points to set. Exhaust pipes that kept undoing themselves. Carb synchronisation was a pointless exercise as the spigot carbs rotated on their inlet hoses causing the relative slide heights to change (3 cables to a junction box).

It was noisy. A massive amount of fin rattle. It sounded like a gang of demented children shaking tins filled with marbles. It was thirsty too. My worst was about 40 miles from a full tank.

But today I kill to still have it. I also owned 2 RD400E. I kill to still have those too.

Best Buy, Lowes & Home Depot should all take rechargeable batteries for recycling I think... :)

Power out this morning. Fired up the Yamaha generator for the first time today, powered up as I type! It's awesome! How come I waited so long? Thank goodness for gasoline!

"Thank goodness for gasoline". Enjoy it while you can, it seems there's a bunch out there that sure don't want you using it, heck they don't even like natural gas that's waaaaay cleaner than gasoline... Glad you've got the gen.

Natural gas and propane generators also have the advantage of not needing to keep gas on hand, not to mention problems with it from sitting a long time.

How's that .... " Puck climate change ! I'm buying a gas generator " thing working out for you ? ......

Funny you mention this, Garth, because I just bought another new gas mower. That makes two mowers, and two wackers/trimmers. I'm set for life now! It's kind of fun, sort of like having the choice of different motorcycles/cars to use.

California has, and will continue to have, fires from time to time. It's part of the natural renewal cycle of nature. I feel sorry for the (mostly) rich folk, living in the canyons and hills. That's risky. If fires don't get you, the mud slides will (when it rains a lot.) People love to live with nature, but even on a good year, it hardly rains in So. Calif, so there is always going to be fire risk.
