All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What about the overall reserves? It's clear that contributions are not keeping up with expenses this year but how much does GSR have in the bank and how long will that last if the situation doesn't improve?

Regarding cheaper hosting, I hope we don't have to do that. The GSR is so fast and snappy that it's a pleasure to come here. I hate clicking and waiting...

I'm in for 40👍
Another nice feature of the GSR website, NO POP UP ADD COMMERCIALS!!!!
Keep up the good work Frank and all the moderators.

I keep forgetting so this thread has served as a reminder. Paid just now - keep up the good work.

I was wondering the same thing, a Balance Sheet should show the account balances.

The numbers posted are the Income Statement for Jan 2018.

Why does it show two separate hosting fees of $56.99 on Jan 3rd 2018, is it $120 month to host?

I strongly agree that we should all step up and contribute, it would be nice if we could have the payments done automatically once a year or a reminder gets sent a few weeks before the expiry.

I'm on a few other sites that have auto renewing and it's nice to have it handled once and I don't have to think about it.

David.

I wondered that also.
As for the reminders, One can always pencil in a self reminder on the calendar. Just put something on the 31st of December in the current year calendar and there you have it. Easy, peasy. Or you can put it on your smart phone. After all, who doesn't have a smart phone these days? (JK).....

On the PayPal window before you check the method of payment there is a tick box for automatic monthly or yearly contribution. If the software can flag you as Past Site Supporter maybe there's also an option to send a notification as well.

Have we considered moving the site to a less expensive hosting platform?

We got to where we are today because of the trials and tribulations of going through lots of cheaper webhosts. Unfortunately this is a game where you truly get what you pay for. We have a world-wide audience along with a humongous forum database that just doesn't work on a server being shared with 100's of other people/companies. We have a semi-dedicated server which makes things extremely fast and gives me lots of control over everything on the server. I have no desire to go to the older, slower, albeit cheaper days.

Frank

Glad to be part of this special group of people. Thanks everyone.

I've corrected the form. Our webhost bills us the 3rd of every month so if the balance sheet doesn't match that then I mistyped something (which is what I did).

As for setting up Paypal subscriptions and handling reminders, I just don't want to go there. I want people to freely support this site of their own free will. I don't want to be a nag about the money. We've never had any money issues until this month so there isn't a need to go crazy about it. As it is, I change your avatar status to indicate that you are a contributor. After 1 year I change that status to show that you are now a Past Contributor. You see this every time you post a message. That's as far as I want to go in nagging people for money. When we again go into the red, then I'll just remind people. If they fail to respond, then the website shuts down. It's simple and I like it that way.

Frank

Unfortunately there are no ties between the subscription handling in the forum software and Paypal. As it is, I handle everything having to do with contributions manually. Needless to say, with all the contributions today, I've been at the keyboard for a few hours. But that's a good thing in this case.

It's good to see that you can set up the yearly payment option from within Paypal. I guess I'll have to pay closer attention to it the next time I buy something using it. ;)

Jedz contribution is in
I always forget where to go, but here's a reminder for others!
Where to donate -------> http://www.thegsresources.com/supportus.php
Frank do you roll any surplus from the previous year into the next? It looks like there was one last year unless I read the sheet incorrectly.
Best,

Best,

No, the money doesn't roll over. January 1st starts a new financial year with a zero balance.

Frank

Frank, so the best way to be sure a donation is applied to the current calender year is to wait till after Jan 1st. Correct? So why dont we designate January as GSR donation drive month and have a reminder pop up??? A lot like the usual spring and fall PBS drives.
