A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've seen this Tampa area bike on Clist for sale for awhile. He was originally asking for 3.2K, but is down to nearly half of that @ 1.8k. In Hot Rodding there is a movement called, "Dare to be different". I think it's still going strong, but the idea is to make forgotten or ugly ducklings into something cool. Well to me this is a bike version of that idea. https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/mcy/d/honda-st-1100-custom-must-see/6383135273.html I'm not sure that applies to the last two examples. lol Different yeah, but cool? Not!

From Google images I found a few others and someone posted an article on it on Bike-urious. http://www.bike-urious.com/unexpected-custom-honda-st1100/

Most of these bikes belong in the Craiglist Funnies thread. Hack jobs made by non-riders.

True, but what about the top three? I've ridden a few of the newer STs for work and they are smooth and torquey, but my knees kept hitting the body work at stops. I can't imagine what it feels like with all that extra weight removed.

Remember these bike started from this.

True, but what about the top three?

First one (green) has hack job seat. Typical. And NOS? Is that a joke?

Second has a joke of a seat too, but at least there is a tail of some sort. Front end?

Third is best, or at least looks to have a usable seat.

The red/white bike looks the most usable of them all. If someone found a cheap salvage/crash survivor I could understand where the bikes are winding up (to some extent). But most of these look like hack jobs by non-riders to me.

More like a desire to have a bike that doesn't look like a bizarre hybrid between a Chinese scooter and a hair dryer.

Honda made no effort to make the ST1100 look like a motorcycle w/o the plastic body pieces so when ever someone removes the plastic covers the outcome is well not integrated and sorta weird looking.

Having owned one, the rider does slide forward when braking, Honda sells a knee pad which attaches to the fairing. Result: better it's a band aid though.

Removing the body panels except for the bags is really negligible weight savings, I don't think it transforms the handling.

Not crazy about any of them. To some I would assume the big engine with its heads sticking out has a certain hot rod aesthetic. Interesting front brakes on the second one. Just like old modded 'Wings, I would think that with some foresight and class, one could be made into a cool minimalist build. As they age and get crashed / neglected I'm sure that we will see more.

Well I must still be young at heart. I showed the one for sale to my 22 year old son and the stock photo and he'd rather have the modded one.

Like Kenny Rogers said in his song, "there's someone for everyone", the same for bikes. Personally, I'd rather have the Chinese scooter or the hair dryer, but others are probably impressed with these things. They kind of remind me of ( how do you spell it ) "sycadellic art"

Well I am a fan of Salvador Dali, maybe that explains it. ;)

My sister has one (1300). I test rode it for some mods I was doing for her, I don't remember any interference with body parts. :-k

.

The police around here use the 1300 (well, Gilbert has been switching over to C14s) and like them a great deal.
