All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My local dealer ordered me a gasket Wednesday and said I would have it today by 2, I checked today they tell me it won't be here til mid JULY!

I called a few online places trying to find a gasket for my 1979 GS425L, they were all out of stock, some had no ETA, others were 2-4 weeks.

I tried realgasket.com but they dont make one for my bike.:(

I am hoping someone can help me out, that's a lot of time to wait to take the 'new' bike out for an inaugural ride!

Just had a thought while writing, is it possible to just make my own gasket? What about some high temp RTV?

Remember that a lot of suppliers are waiting for things now since the earthquake/tsunami in Japan affected a lot of factories.

From what I hear the RTV idea won't work that great but check out Basscliff's site for making your own gasket.

HOLY COW! How did I miss that, I read that site countless times since I joined to GS group! That just made my weekend!! Cheers to you!

Thank you!

I might just have one. Let me take a pic and if it the one that you need, $5.00 plus shipping.
But, I do like Don's technique.

Thanks Daniel, if you get a chance that would be awesome if its the one I need!

I ended up making my own and got the bike on the road, not perfect but it works for the most part!

Is this the part number that you are after?

Thanks Daniel, the one I need is part# 11173-44005, oh well worth a shot at least! Thanks for checking!

As others have suggested, failing everything else, just go out and buy a roll of gasket paper and make your own. Sometimes it's worth having a go, think of how much time it can save you by simply putting in a bit of effort to do things you otherwise wouldn't do.
