Dan, thanks for that info, can I purchase from you the parts to do the conversion on my Buffalo. And would you accept a money order?
gustovh, Just a thought, use your same picture this week, no better place for a solo lunch while out on a ride.
I'm getting set to replace the reg/rec in my 79 gs1000. The drawing shows two wires going directly to the reg/rec from the stator. The third wire goes through two connections, up to the handle bars light switch, and then back down to the reg/rec. It doesn't appear to actually do anything up there. Can I bypass that loop and go directly to the new reg rec. I just installed one from Rick's Motorsports in my 77 Kz-650
Hi Tom,
I am interested in a backup ignitor, and glad to hear your ignitor has lasted well and long. Surprised and impressed at your foresight in testing the components before storage. Is there something I can offer for the trouble besides shipping costs?

The stock ignitor with stock ignition coils has worked well for me. The ignitor is likely vulnerable to high voltage in charging system ….I sold one to a Florida guy who knew high voltage fired his ignitor..
My email is thoranthoran@gmail.com…cell is 339-793-3946 .text is best as I don’t carry my phone unless going out.
If you want a spare, I’d want $70 which includes shipping. Based on my experience, you’re unlikely to need it.,
Finally warming up!
Been riding motorcycles or mini bikes since 1970. First Suzuki motorcycle that I own was a 1978 Suzuki GS750. Rode that baby to Key West and up Pikes Peak when it was gravel and the carbs weren’t adjusted for high altitude; it was a dog. Second motorcycle I own was a 1979 GS 850G and If I could have any bike I’ve ever owned For handling smoothness, gas mileage, dependability this would be the one that I would want. I even had a 1983 GS 1100GL and I didn’t like the small gas tank. Still riding today not Suzuki but I would sure like to pick up a GS850G if I could find one for the right price?
Did you ever find anything? I have an old (prob 90's) Hindle that came with my '83 GS1100E that is super nice and light, like 10 lbs. Crazy light and nice quality. I'm not sure if it fits '79 GS1000s but fairly high confidence it would.

The can had some gouges so I filled with JB weld, sanded, and painted. Looks good. Since it's held together with springs, it's easy to take off and change the oil. These pics are when I got it. It had been ceramic coated but sat a while. I have cleaned it up and it's pretty nice.

To be honest I don't know what it's worth. And of course, whether you are interested. I also have K&N pods and have thought about running it on my 2nd GS1100E, can save a lot of weight but jetting can be a hassle.

I have only passing interest in selling it but maybe if you are interested it could be discussed.

Trying to rebuild carbs on a 2005 GS500F. These plastic pieces are from the needles but there does not appear to be any way to reattach them. Is there a trick to this or are they even necessary. I have a rebuild kit with new needles and could use some guidance. Thanks.
Good evening all. I’m after some info regarding spark plugs if I may? I have a 1980 GS 425 and wondered if I can use either of the ND w24es and ND w24es u variants of plug? The manual advises ND w24es for my year and ND w24es U for bikes 1986 and onwards. Not entirely sure what the difference is? Thanks in advance
BREAKING: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unleashes a historic speech scorching Donald Trump's idiocy over his disastrous new tariffs: "This is a very dumb thing to do."

This is what an actual world leader sounds like...

"The United States launched a trade war against Canada, their closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, a lying murderous dictator," began Trudeau.

"Make that make sense."

Trump's 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico took effect today and the markets are in free fall. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has already plummeted 662 points after plunging 650 points on Monday. The S&P 500 lost 1.3% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.9%

The gullible fools who thought that Trump would be "good for the economy" have had the rug pulled out from under them in record time.

"Canadians are reasonable and we are polite," Trudeau continued. "But we will not back down from a fight, not when our country and the well-being of everyone in it is at stake. At the moment, the U.S. tariffs came into effect in the early hours of this morning and so did the Canadian response."

"Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155 billion worth of American goods starting with tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods immediately and tariffs on the remaining $125 billion of American products in twenty-one days time," said Trudeau. "Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. tariffs are withdrawn and not a moment sooner."

"And should these tariffs not cease, we are in active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures, measures which will demonstrate that there are no winners in a trade war," he threatened.

"Now just like I did a month ago, I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this," said Trudeau. "We want to work with you as a friend and ally and we don't want to see you hurt either."

"But your government has chosen to do this to you," he stated bluntly. "As of this morning, markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically all across your country."

"Your government has chosen to put American jobs at risk at the thousands of workplaces that succeed because of materials from Canada or because of consumers in Canada or both," he went on.

"They've chosen to raise costs for American consumers on everyday essential items like groceries and gas, on major purchases like cars and homes, and everything in between," he continued.

"They've chosen to harm American national security, impeding access to the abundant critical minerals, energy, building materials, and fertilizers that we have and that the United States needs to grow and prosper," he explained.

"They've chosen to launch a trade war that will first and foremost harm American families. They've chosen to sabotage their own agenda that was supposed to usher in a new 'Golden Age' for the United States," said Trudeau, taking a direct shot at MAGA's latest inane rhetoric.

"And they've chosen to undermine the incredible work that we've done together to tackle the scourge that is fentanyl, a drug that must be wiped from the face of the Earth," he added. "So on that point, let me be crystal clear. There is absolutely no justification or need whatsoever for these tariffs today."

Trudeau then shifted gears to go after Donald Trump directly, the clueless mastermind behind this entire disaster—

"Now I want to speak directly to one specific American: Donald. In the over eight years you and I have worked together, we've done big things," said Trudeau, appealing to Trump's ego.

"We signed a historic deal that has created record jobs and growth in both of our countries. We've done big things together on the world stage as Canada and the U.S. have done together for decades, for generations," he continued. "And now we should be working together to ensure even greater prosperity for North Americans in a very uncertain and challenging world."

"Now, it's not in my habit to agree with The Wall Street Journal but Donald, they point out that even though you're a very smart guy this is a very dumb thing to do. We two friends fighting is exactly what our opponents around the world want to see," said Trudeau.

"And now to my fellow Canadians: I won't sugarcoat it. This is going to be tough even though we're all going to pull together because that's what we do," he added. "We will use every tool at our disposal so Canadian workers and businesses can weather this storm."

Canadians are lucky to have someone like Trudeau steering the ship of state through the geopolitical waters of Hurricane Donald. The Canadian Prime Minister is sane, thoughtful, and well-intentioned, all of the things that Trump is not.

The worst part about this economic nosedive is that it's absolutely pointless and completely avoidable. Trump's demands make absolutely no sense. He's just trying to look tough to appease his MAGA base and dragging all of us along for the ride.

Buckle up. The Trump economy might soon be the worst in American history.

For me, the Vortex means absolutely nothing, just something to get giggles out of. It does need a little stirring now and then...It seems odd most everybody I know personally are wondering and guessing what the next 4 yrs. will bring, but here at the Vortex appx. 90% know exactly what's going to happen. Who cares? As long as the Vortex stays in the Vortex, The GSR will be all good.
Trevor, you said you still had your Hindle. Would you consider selling it?

My email is MikeLDrew@aol.com

Cheers!

Hi Mike, did you get my message...this message option is hard to navigate for some reason
Hi. I'm in Palmerston North and am nearing the end of a 1979 GS1000S restoration. I have bought an exhaust system from Tranzac in Quennsland and although I haven't fitted it, the quality of the manufacturing is superb. I have a few GS1000 spares but nothing that is specifically for an S model. The shame is that I could have bought a 1980 model one about 20 years ago for $500 but had no room for it.
Received the o-rings yesterday, thanks. :encouragement:

Thanks for the feedback, Steve. Enjoy!
Hello folks , just an intro like most of you been riding since I was 15 (71 now).
I picked up an 83 GS 650 with only 22k miles. Originally from Mass lived in NH for 50 years or so. Full time in Hernando FL.
I appreciate your wisdom & experience.
Hmmm, still no luck getting a pic of my bike loaded. I got flickr but it still says that the file is too big. You're just gonna have to trust me. It looks pretty good.

I'm not sure if there are others in my area: admittedly I've stayed mostly on the technical side of the forum as I've gotten by bike up to mechanical snuff. Something worth looking into...

Definitely would be interested in doing the Brown County Rally this year - seems to be a nexus of GSR'ers in Indiana. Would be a first for me, and probably the longest ride I'll have had yet.

THe two I am thinking of, one in Valpo other in Cedar Lake, are long term GSR members, who, along with some guys from Chigago and some from Indy area, have all become personal friends over the years, but dont post much anymore. But do ride to Brown County together.
For BC, Thursday, they, and sometimes me, meet up at IN2&I65 then ride to Danville (Mayberry Cafe) meet up with other guys from Indy area, for lunch then ride to Bedford (usally in groups of 2 or 3) (I am more intersted in "just getting to Bedford" while others make it a lot longer ride). I am shure you would be welcome.
I would invite you to join me but is a chance that this old man might be trailering for the first time, yet to be dtermined.

Is 330 miles, one way, for me. And ride 150-200-250 Friday & agin Saturday.

Oh, the rally is arrive thursday, evening parking lot socail time, ride Friday, evening parking lot social time, ride Saturday, evening parking lot social time, depart Sunday.

Yah, would be good to meet up sometime, say, later in spring or early summer. I am in Grand HAven, well, just outside town, usally ride north, but sometimes south, maybe to Saugatuck or South HAven. I dont ride west anymore than 3 miles, har har har. And dont go east much cuz would be Grand Rapids urban.
