A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am currently setting my float bowl levels for a ‘80 GS450 and the manual says between 21.4 - 23.4mm but when I set it to that spec the float is essentially resting itself on the carb. Allowing no travel to shut off gas flow with the small tab. It seems wrong. I’m curious if anyone knows whether this is normal or if I should possibly set them higher.

I’ve looked around on here to see if people have had talked about this but could find anything so I apologize if this is redundant.
I am interested in the mirrors, can you give me a good description of the condition or picture, and price?

I remember I sent you something but can't remember what.

Hi Russ I’m after several parts for a 1979 GS1000S can you assist? Thx Rob NZ

I've been lurking on your threads about your cam issues and have a possible solution for you. If they're compatible I've got a set of cams from a '79 GS850. Actually I have the whole head in pieces right now and can send whatever you need from it. Shipping may be a bit of a struggle so if you want to look locally for parts I understand. I've shipped parts to South Africa, Ireland, UK Canada and Mexico. It's a PITA, but sometimes it's nearly impossible to find this old stuff. Just throwing it out there.

Cheers!

Thanks mate. I'll keep that in mind. Parts are quite scarce here in Australia and the bike are actually pretty expensive in general. I had to buy mine as non running incomplete projects to even get in the game.
Hiya Ed,

I could use an SH775 if you have any inventory. I have one on the running (red) bike and it's doing great. Now the 2nd (blue) is coming along. There are fried wires on one of the stock R/Rs I have, and a spare, so that area is suspect. I don't want to use the stockers. I think my stator is OK, at least Ohm's test checks out. Will see. Let me know what you got and how much, will shoot you a PayPal if you have.
Hey buddy,

Quick thoughts on K1200RS of the late 90's? I may be looking at a 98 this week.

From my buddy…hope this helps

You should try and stay away from the integral ABS brakes. They’re also called I – ABS. Check the back of the crank case underneath for oil leaking at the rear end of the engine. There is a seal from the gearbox to the clutch that wears out sometimes. You have to take the whole back end of the bike apart to get out the seal to replace it. It screws up the clutch because it gets oil on the pressure plate. That’s the only two issues that I know about. it is desirable to get saddlebags with the bike. They are a special shape because of the high exhaust. they are very hard to find in the eBay world. Enjoy the hunt
Rob, didn't want to put it out there, picture of the week ain't the Vortex. But NY has Lititia James and you think Tennessee folks have got their heads screwed on backwards???
Hey, I just bought a 1980 GS1100L with the 4 valve head and chain drive. Gotta drive back and pick it up in a couple weeks (no truck available, and can't trust it for a cross-Texas trip just yet). My second streetbike (and best I've owned) was also a '79 GS1000L (Midnight Blue). Just wanted to holler at you - this particular bike appears to be really scarce!

It was only 1 year in the US. Outside it was a few more.
David,

I have not received the key? How long does it normally take for them to arrive in the US?

Thanks,
Ron

Usually 10 - 14 days but noticed a registered letter posted in Vancouver took 5 days to get to our place only 50Km away, so you should be seeing it soon.
David.
Hey Nessism, I could use the O rings or the VM carbs, the way USPS has been lately paypal might be best for me.
Thanks Doug
Hey guys new member here! First time owning and working on a motorcycle so I’m pretty green. That being said, I pulled the carbs off the bike to rebuild them and made a lovely discovery. Someone has broken the cavity that the pilot screw goes into and tried to fix it with some type of material I can only imagine is JBweld. Am I correct in assuming this carb is now trash?

My wife thinks she sent you an email this morning for the pic of week thing, The END of the road. It would be from either deloresphillips34@gmail.com or dcp240sx@hotmail.com. Wondering if it went through?

got it and posted it. Did you get any of my PM's? Visitor messages are kind of goofy, and the disappear and I can't find them later. PMs seem to stick around.
