I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'78 GS750E - 530 chain and sprocket set query.

Himble

Forum Apprentice
Hi folks,

I'm planning on changing to a 530 chain + sprocket set. My plans are to get a 17 countershaft and 42 rear wheel sprocket set.

My question is, what is the best chain (there are many in 530 size!) and what's the best source for sprockets?
TIA.

I bought mine from Z1 Enterprise. They were real helpful on the phone. I also bought my V&H/4-1 exhaust from them.

Ed

I've bought from Z1 before, for my Honda CB500K1 restomod, so no dramas there.
With respect to V & H, no thanks, already have a really cool exhaust!
Will check Z1 for what I want....trouble is, shipping from US to Perth is 'kn expensive!

Have checked with Z1, they have what I need for sprockets.
I can get a 530 chain here in AUS.
Thanks for the heads up Ed!

No problem!

I've yet to install my 530 conversion. I had a heck of a time trying to get the hub nut off. We bent MrBill's crowbar too. It will get done.

I just did mine a couple of months ago and was told that I shouldnt go under 18 for the front sprocket because of clearance. I have amazon prime and got all the parts there and used my prime card to get points back

Oh my goodness how nice the ride is after the chain swap!

So which size front and rears did you end up with Alex?

Assuming decent parts, a sprocket is a sprocket and a O ring chain is a chain. No need to pay shipping from USA. Z1 sells JT and Emgo sprockets which I'll bet can be sourced in AUS. Add a good O ring chain and you're all set.

Because of the smaller spacing of the 530 the Diameter shrinks and there is the potential for it to slap on the swing arm.

I sweated it for a couple of weeks but decided to go a little taller than stock but lower than where it was when I bought it. It means I climbed about 200 rpm at highway speed but am now getting better mileage and its just a lot more fun around town now that it feels more peppy. I am very happy where I landed up.

Thanks Alex. Based on your remarks/advice I'll go with 18/48 which gives a final drive ratio of 2.67 compared to the current 15/41 (630) with final drive ratio 2.73.
