A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

after discovering that there are 3 holes in my exhaust pipes i have come to the conclusion that i need new ones. The only ones i have been able to find are

http://www.mashonline.com/SubPages/Dunstall_Universal.htm

and

http://www.macperformance.com/store/category.cfm?SID=3&Category_ID=717

I do not want to buy stock pipes, if i could, i would like to buy a more performance-based muffler if anything. So if you guys have any suggestions/favourites and whutnot, please, post away. Oh, and for the record, my bike is a 1980 GS 400 L ( i think it still has its original pipes on it ). Any advice for an newbie GS'er will also be appreciated.

PS - if the exhaust headers are still in good shape, is it bad to just replace the mufflers?

Aftermarket Exhaust

Surprise, surprise - Vance and Hines still stocks a chrome "Street Megaphone" system for the GS850 - $299! Try emailing them from their website and asking if they still make one for your bike;

Re: Aftermarket Exhaust

I've got the dunstall's on original headers - done by the previous owner. They sound fine - I can't comment on power changes having never ridden the 450 with the stock exhaust. The previous owner cut off the cross pipe to make these fit and the rear brake pedal rubs the right side muffler. Of course my pedal is also *bent* so you may not have this problem. The MAC pipe will be a bit louder than the dunstall's but it'll be lighter as well.

I've had a mac pipe for an 650 honda, nice hardware - by no means a "performance" exhaust, but with a 400 thats not really what you're looking for.

hope this helps...Sam

I don't know about the Marshall, but from the day (about 20yrs ago) Harris exhausts had a great reputation for quality and performance.. CJ

CJ,

Follow the link below and search at the catalogue by Suzuki and Katana GSX1100S, you can find Marshall pipe is from UK Laser. You can find they still produce this complete 4-1 system in chrome, they said it is deep tone, seems very cool.
Also, Laser still produce 4-1 sport style.
What do you think about them?

A friend of mine has Marshall pipe its mayby bit loud, we are not sure if someone has done something to that pipe it was on bike when he bought that bike.
Marshall works on a gsx1100e 83 wery well, that dam bike is the reason why I?m building my GSX -82, I have same pistons, jets, air filters, mayby difrent springs at carbs and flat 4-1 exhaust, his bike is fast mine is not.
How much exhaust system can effect to performace?
