DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Case Guards

I have a 1980 GS750L that I would like to add case guards to. Are the 1980 GS750L & GS750E frame case guards interchangeable?

Thank You.

I know the engines are the same, so the engine mounting points are the same. The L frame shows some difference in the lower left (as you sit on the bike) area. But I'm about 98% sure if you find case guards for an '80E, they should fit on an '80L. Roger Burque73 had a pair I was going to buy but my T doesn't have the mounting holes on the frame downtube present on the E & L Models.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a feeling that the bracket looking thing on the E model frame just under and behind that #3 bolt could be a mounting for the case guard and it's not on the L frame.

Oh, Pete,
I failed to notice that this was your first post on the forum. Let be the first to welcome you. So... Welcome to the Forum. If you're new to bikes, or just to GSes, you'll find some useful links in my signature.

BikeCliff's Website is full of manuals, wiring diagrams and many helpful DIY tutorials that deal with common GS, uh... features.

The TOP 10 Newbie Mistakes thread is a great first read and forever reference. Post some pictures (link for that too).

Go ahead and make a signature with your bike info in it (at least). Go to settings at the top right of any page. It helps people know what bike your talking about without you having to remember to type it out.

You could also go the GS Owners forum and create a new thread, tell us about yourself and your bike.

I prefer this style below but would '83 work on an '80?

'83 750E was a completely different engine and frame from the '80-'82 750E. So I would guess not.

Yeah I figured as much. I have all winter to find one. Thank you for all your help today. Any chance you live near Barto Pa? There's big flea market there (Jakes's) and Sunday they're having a vintage bike show.

Had to look up Barto. No, that's a 2.5 hour drive for me. I do have a kid that goes to Kutztown U, though he is currently on a bit of a break (long story), so I do get out that way sometimes, not usually on the bike.

Update... I found a set of case guards on Ebay. The seller was local so win-win . They came off of an '81 GS750L. They will work on an '80. Thanks to everyone for the help.

A little WD40, 000 steel wool and they'll clean up just fine I think.

Hey Pete, you probably already know, but Suzuki made a "T" model back in those days, I thought it seemed to be about half way between an "L" & an "E". It had less radical bars & seat than the "L". Don't know what "T" parts may fit the "L", but may be worth looking in to. Congrats, welcome, & Keep up the good work.

Be very careful of the bolt that nearly touches the lower crankcase wall on the right hand side. It's not unknown for some clueless clot to punch a hole in the case and then have to patch it with JB Weld or similar.
Not that I've ever done such a thing, nope.
Never.
Not me.

Yep, that'd be me, they even came with another bolt :(
