DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I think I screwed up my screw

Just changed out my e bars for es bars this morning. When putting in the hold down bolt the riser to the triple tree, I think I messed up. I always start hand tight, but when it bit it seemed too tight. So back it out and try again. Of course every time I did it. It was a quarter of a turn tighter. Now I'm starting to think it's just stiff. Well I had to use a pipe extension for the last little bit. I wasn't to worried about breaking the bolt as it was going into aluminum. Fortunately I just did my fork seals a month ago, so they don't have to come off for a while. But it bothers me that I did it. So I'll probably take it to machinist and fix it. But I sure feel stupid!!

No, the one that holds the riser to the triple tree. There is a hole that slips over the fork tube and next to it a bolt to the triple tree.

Did you have the two top pinch bolts on the forks loose and the one on the top tree? They need to be loose so the top tree can slide down as you tighten that big bolt. In any case a replacement steering head isnt expensive and relatively easy to replace. Keep an eye on it for now for it coming loose again..if it doesnt dont worry about it till youn have to do fork seals or something. Then change the whole assembly at that point. You may want to loosen the pinch bo,lts to be sure verything is settled if they werent already loose before.

Chuck he has "clip on" style bars like these

Screw he's talking about goes into the triple.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Below is a diagram of my bar setup, though it doesn't show the the bolt in question. If you look at the bottom of the riser you will see a big hole which slides over the fork tube and next to it a small hole for the bolt. Just went down and checked it and it could use another turn to tighten, but I hesitate to do it. I could remove it and put in a washer, but then I run the risk of stripped threads. There is very little play. I had to really pull on the bar end to see it.
