A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Need valve shim 3.15mm

I need a large valve shim for the 1980 550E . I need a 3.15mm shim. Anyone know where I might get this size ? Seems the valves stems have been clipped on this engine. It uses large shims 2.80mm - 2.90mm but I need this really large size. Really don't want to pull this head to install new valves.. or sink them...but if I have too..I have too . Anyway..thanks.

Terry

I know I have a large one, don't remember if it's a 3.10 or 3.15. :-k

Will have the wife check my stock (I won't be home for several more weeks) and get back with you.

.

If Steve (or anyone else) can't help you, short of pulling the head, you could pull the cams and try swapping buckets around. Apparently they vary in size also.

The last time I saw a need for a shim that large, there was a cam journal issue.

Thanks Steve and Mike.

It has a 3.10 shim in it now. Yes..very good suggestion, I will move the buckets around and see what I can come up with. Easier than pulling the head. Again..THANKS.

if i have one i'll mail it to you tomorrow.

ok forget it.
i have 2.40-2.95's
smack your bucket with a wooden/plastic dowel and a hammer to knock off some of the carbon on the valve/seat area and then you can used a thinner shim.
3.15 is a fatty for sure.

You already have a 3.10, and you need a 3.15? Either you're building up stuff and it's preventing the valve from closing, or your cam is eating away at your journals. Clearances should not be getting larger.

Had my wife check my shims, the largest I have is a 2.90.

The 3.10 and 3.15 that I do have are Kawasaki shims.

Someone was heavy handed with the valve grinder.
