DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

First off I want to say you guys have a great site going here. Lots of great info. I've owned a 94 Katana, and a 78 GS1000. The bike I have now is a 79 GS750.

I have been searching and searching, but haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for. I wat to put a GSXR front end on my bike. There's a couple for sale here on the board that I may try to get. First off, Will any of these bolt to my bike without mods? If so, what do I need?

Next, would a swingarm off of a 81 GS1100e fit my bike? Would a GSXR wheel fit on that? I've found a couple 06 Katana swingarms also. Is it any longer than stock? I'd like it to be a little longer. Can you use the stock GS master cylinder for the brakes?

Sorry for all the questions. I have built and worked on cars for years, and owned a couple bikes. Just never done any work of this caliber to a bike. I want to make sure I'm not in over my head. I just bought the bike, and I want to get it ready to ride this year. Hopefully within the next two months. Thanks for any help in advance!

Well it is doable, but two months is a bit of a push is you have never done it before. There are plenty of examples here so just start looking. I spent 2-3 months comparing options to pursue and then another 6 months collecting parts and then 1 month putting it together. RSU 18" and that is the simplest conversion.

Other than the Bandit swing arm this is teh easiest conversion unless you go with clip on's

Yea, I planned on going with clipons anyway. What is RFU? Sorry for silly questions.

Depends on what you mean by no mods. I believe you have ball bearings in the neck of your frame. You'll need to do a bearing conversion. Most people use tapered bearings though a few have used caged rollers. You'll likely need to weld fork stops to the frame, acquire headlight brackets which aren't cheap for inverted forks, decide what type of bars you want to use, gauges and mounts, and other things that you'll run into. When I bolted on the '88 front end I used to run it took just a couple days once I had all the parts together. The fork and wheels I had on in a few hours, the rest of the time was spent sorting out gauges, bars, and the other odds and ends. I have about 60 hours in polishing the wheels. When I bolted on the '95 fork it again took a few hours and another day or two sorting things out.

Here's my bike with the new front end. The fender is red now, just no new pic.

And the '88.

Okay, gotchya. I'm not too worried about the odd and end stuff. It's mainly bolting the forks, and swingarm to the frame, and that kind of stuff. Just mainly worried something may not work right. Thats the only thing that worries me. Like spacers or what not if I need any. I guess I'll jump in and see what happens. I'd like it to sit lower, and be a couple inches longer. I have seen both types of forks and wasn't sure which to get. And I've seen both of you guys bikes, and the look great. I've been searching for days, lol. Just wanted a little better insight to the project.
