A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Purchasing Used Helmets

For the prices you can get a new one for in the sales I wouldn't buy used.... Different matter if a trusted friend or someone well known on here gave/sold me one.

Key differences between cheap and expensive helmets seem to be removable pads... (daughters so must be clean girls right?? :) ) wind noise (teach them to wear ear plugs) and weight. Weight diff is never that much and it won't take them long to build any extra muscle needed..

Sometimes true,
AFX FX-96 Multi Full Face Helmet is for Street and Cruiser enthusiast. Clearcoat finish. Flush-fit head and chin vents. Fully removable and washable hypoallergenic nylon liner. Optically-correct, compound-curved, scratch-resistant, UV-treated, flush-fit face shield. Removable cheek pads. Ample ear cavity for speakers

Out of a $25 helmet, can't beat that. Same stuff they use in their $200 helmets just a different shell and different weight :)

One other factor that I have not seen mentioned yet is head SHAPE.

Some helmets are more rounded, others are more oval. This will make a big difference in comfort and protection.

If possible, go to a bike shop to try on several different brands. This will give you an idea which brands will fit. Then look for that brand on the internet and find your best price.

um.......think i already mentioned that ;)

Depends on the price of used. As others said, there are some cheaper new helmets both in stores (Walmart) and online. If you can get new for $50 or so, used would jhave to be like 50% of that for me.

Depending on the age (of helmet and kid) newer may offer lighter helmet for kids than an adult small.

just options.

on ebay i found a bran new flat black helmet for $23 with like $15 in shipping. really nice helmet and it came with a tinted visor. fit perfect and was comfortable.. check Ebay they always have good deals...

I'll admit that I have a couple of used helmets on the shelf for occasional guest passenger use.

Helmets in smaller "ladies" sizes (XS, S, M) are almost always virtually unused.

With that said, if it's someone who will be riding with you often, then yeah, it's well worth trying on many different helmets and finding one that fits well and looks good.

My wife and I scoured the earth looking for a non-pink helmet that would match her prized baby-blue jacket -- we finally found a nice comfy Gmax GM68 at the Chicago motorcycle show for $90.
