Quick question about petcock

I am about to order a new petcock from Z1 but Im not sure if it will work on my bike. It lists a gs750 but not the right model letter. Mines a gs750b (1977). Its a 44 mm bolt spacing and I just checked and that is what mine is. I was wondering if any one knows if this petcock will work on my bike?

Things to check...
The hose fittings come off at different angles for the different models, will it work well on your bike?
Will it physically fit under the tank without interference with the carburetors?

Functionally it is the same as your original.

The fuel and vac line come out the wrong side. It probably would work but would look stupid and require longer hoses. It looks like I'm gonna have to go the OEM route. I just found one on Babbitts for 63.63 which is cheapest so far. If any one knows of a good OEM part dealer that is affordable I would appreciate the knowledge. Tommorow I plan to go to my local dealer to see what they will charge.

I really have no desire to attempt to re-build the current petcock.

There really isn't much to a petcock. Have you considered a rebuild. I have had very good luck cleaning old petcocks without even having to replace any parts. Or you can go with a rebuild kit which gives you the o-ring and diaphragm. That's really the only two parts that can wear out. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

That's a good call. I suppose it can't hurt taking it apart.

Not sure about the "77" models, but if I remember right, the ones I've worked on, the FUEL line came out toward the rear of the bike. The VACUUM fitting molded into the back plate on the pit cock, & can be installed pointing up, down, toward back or front. I've rebuilt 2 & have not had any problems.

I just rebuilt mine and gas trickles out in RES and ON positions, what did I do wrong? Is there a schematic anywhere for a '77 GS750 petcock?

I recommend buying NEW. You don't know what shape the metal is in from years of corrosion. So you can spend $30-35 for a rebuild kit that may not work or do it right the first time.. and spend a few dollars more.
