DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What would cause the resistance in my clutch to get softer? Just started noticing it slightly today. Can't tell if its actually getting softer to pull, or its just in my head.

Maybe you're getting stronger:p

Is your clutch showing signs of wear like chatter or slippage?

How old is the cable? Maybe a strand or 2 broke due to your new kung fu grip and you're getting a bit of strech.

Other than than hard tellin' not knowin' without some more info about what's going on.

is it slipping when you rev? I'd maybe inspect/lube your clutch cable. If the clutch isn't slipping and the cable is OK then its probably nothing. If you have no idea when you replaced the clutch cable, now is a good time to throw in a new one and lube it :D

If the clutch "slips" when your in gear IE you get less acceleration and more rev's then that's an indication that your clutch springs may be wearing out. If is shifts smoothly with no slip and doesn't get worse then your fine.

If you don't like the feel you can get some stiffer springs from EBC, but they are significantly stiffer. (11 on diagram) These control the "clutch lever action" you feel on the clutch lever.

If the springs were wearing (11 on diagram) you'd notice it "slipping" while reving it. If the disks and plates were worn or wearing (7-8 on diagram) it would be harder to shift it or it wouldn't engage in gear or chatter.

Spring 29 on the diagram also helps with the clutch lever, but its there to ensure that the lifter mechanism (24) returns after you release the lever. (if the lifter mechanism securing bolt (25-26) is slipping it may be "loosening" your clutch but it would be more of a no longer really moving your clutch enough to shift it out of neutral and stop kind of thing...

90% chance that your clutch cable is due for a change, maybe a strand broke or something. About $12 from just about everywhere. I have an after market Motion-Pro I picked up form my local shop.

Lever just feels easier to pull in. No slippage. I'll pay close attention tomorrow. Thanks. I'll probably replace the cable anyway.

i noticed the same with my old 31 year old cable...it would be real stiff..then loosen up...i broke 2 cables that way..

bought a new cable and lever today...its rather easy to pull in again..pretty comfy to be honest

i also have 3 stock 1981 springs, and 3-10% stiffer ones

+1 on the cable suggestions... if it's frayed and starting to stretch it will definitely feel "softer" as the cable will be stretching before engaging the clutch...
