DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi. have anybody experience with speed or rpm . for GS650GL 1982. I need check if is alright my bike.

It can't really be wrong unless your clutch is slipping. I don't have a 650 anymore but it should be something around eighty kph?? It's a high RPM engine, and it's geared accordingly.

Friends with any local police??? Have one of them use the radar gun to see if they get the same as what your speedometer says.

It's about 12 mph per 1000 RPM, so 48-50 mph (80 kph, as tkent suggested) would be pretty close.

Also as suggested, no need to change it, that's where it works quite well. :encouragement:

.

Thank you for all answers. I just finsh ride. Result is on 5th gear at 4000rpm 52mph (85kph) and at 5000 rpm 71 mph (115 kph). I gues all is fine.

Last question is "TOP speed" but this I wish try later due to my lack of experience.

4K at 52mph does not reasonably correlate into 5K at 71. 5K should only be around 64mph.

What you think is wrong?
Bad speedo like mine which stopped working last year, but repaired itself somewhat over winter. Erratic- reads 5mph low at actual 45 mph. As to top speed stuff, let me know when you hit 9500 rpm in fifth! Get a GPS to know for sure.

Simple mathematics will tell you that if you are going 52 mph at 4000 RPM (13 MPH per 1000 RPM), you should be doing 65 mph at 5000 RPM, not 71.

A difference of one or two MPH could be written off as viewing error or needle bounce, but SIX MPH is too great an error.

I use GPS today. It's speed meter which is not alright. RPM are also depend on road level...
