A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stock air filter/box question

So for the first time I get my airbox out and opened up on my 82 650G. (Yes, I am ashamed of my lack of maintenance) The sliders holding the lid on are missing, and it was melted shut. Turns out when I opened it, there was nothing in there... And I do mean nothing. I got new sliders, and a new stock replacement filter, but when I look at the manual I got from Basscliffs site it looks like there is some sort of "cage" type deal the filter goes on to to hold the filter in place. I can't find a part number for this anywhere, and the box is a discontinued part.

Any ideas on what I can do here, or where I can buy this? Is there a cage like I'm seeing in the manual?

air filter

Order a K&N filter for it, might have to search the motorcycle salvage yards for an air box. I would stay away from individual air filters, just trouble in my view, especially in wet weather.

I'm not keen on jetting for pods, just want a filter on there. I bought a uni filter, bit with nothing holding it it doesn't stay in place.

Brandon, have you tried "Crackhead Georges" bike boneyard in Hobart? I have his card at home and could send you his number if you need it? Do you have the cone type filter on your bike?

This what you're talking about?

Edit, just checked the fisch and it seems the G and the E dont share the same part. My bad..
The housing pictured is from an E.

Crackhead George? Never heard of that guy, but could really use a number. I sadly neglected this bike last season and it looks like the PO did too. Started checking valve clearances and most of them are tighter than 0.002 mm.

The filter is somewhat conical in shape, and the one I got is foam. It rolls up when I try to close the lid.

Octain, the filter I have is quite a bit different than that one. I'll get pics up tonight.

Yup, saw it on the fisch..

I will PM you this evening with Georges number. There is also a boneyard by Michigan City but I am not sure if it is still open.

Good luck finding one, it's very hit and miss, and it only fits the shaft drive 650s. I fashioned one out of a coat hanger and used it for a season before finding the correct piece.
