A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Was this thing downwind from Mt. St. Helens?

Too bad -- these were nice-looking little machines, and downright respectable motorcycles.

At one time.

Still are. Totally competent machines, I have an 86 with less than 1000 original miles, one of my permanent "keepers."

Looks like it was sitting in the open in a poorly equipped fibreglass sanding facility...

It looks like it has been used for what it was designed for... A boat anchor!

You obviously haven't ridden one, in stock form, it will spank any stock GS1000 or GS1100E in existence. Sub 11 second quarter miles in 1983, fastest production motorcycle ever made at the time. Great all around motorcycle, one of the best ever made, and Honda reliability to boot. The internet noise you hear about bad cams are all just BS, propaganda so a few unscrupulous vendors could make thousands of dollars on unnecessary "oil mod" kits. Total waste of time and money. They are notorious for bad 2nd gears though, but that's the same with the VMAX, and it's just because people bought them and rode the $hit out of them. I've personally owned several over 100K miles with nary a problem with cams OR 2nd gear. Here's some good reading on the REAL story behind the cams "issues."

My brother had an '83 V65 Magna that I rode a lot. Yes, it was bad-ass for a stock bike in it's day.

I never rode one, but I ran one 5 runs. I outweighed him by 30 lbs and beat him 4 out of 5, losing only once from missing a shift. He was getting all it had, a better launcher than me. I never saw one of these win a shootout in the mags, but those were always close.

Never lost to one of them, maybe a magazine tester got a good time with it but nobody I ran across coud beat my lowly 81 11e. Never cared for the rise and fall of the shaft drive very spooky to let off the throttle mid curve, a friend crashed one, he blamed that very thing.

A buddy of mine, who rode a CBX, borrowed his cousins V65 Sabrer, just to beat my GS 1100. Didn work, I beat him 3 out of 3. He was so embarrissed he didn't even stop when we got back to the shop.

Great article! Thanks for sharing.

Back when I had a VF1000R, I raced a guy on a V65 in a stoplight to stoplight drag and got handed my ass.

83GS1100E, quick question: What's the fuel range on the Magna? 150 miles or thereabouts?
