Hi folks. I have an 83 1100E. I'm pretty sure it is running lean. Plugs are unsullied. The bike likes to ping when hot coming onto the throttle. Engine runs hot (260F on a hot day, unless the gauge is lying. I am installing an oil cooler this year)). I am thinking a Dynojet kit would solve the problem without too much hassle. I plan to either keep the stock airbox, or go with pods, but definitely richen up the mixture. Would a Stage 1 kit do the job, or would a Stage 3 be a better bet? Would a Stage 3 overfuel the bike if the rest of the intake system is left stock? I am not going with aftermarket pipes.
It could also be a case of too much timing advance, but I can't see how this could be with everything fixed in place.
Can leanness be cured by lifting the needle a bit? It tends to backfire a bit on trailing throttle or small throttle openings. The bike runs well otherwise, except for that damn oil leak I can't find!
