just thinking of changing my oil. I heard a bunch of people saying not to use fram because they dont flow good. What are some good ones? I just want to buy one off ebay. I'm guessing K&N

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have found the auto parts sell's them cheaper than ebay does. I order 3 at a time from Auto zone about 20 bucks or so.
I use fram oil filter and change it every other oil change.
The oil I use is castrol 10w-40 changed every 1500 miles give or take.

There are differences in oil filters. They are not all just "wads of folded paper". Construction is better in some filters, and others can fall apart internally. I don't like the Fram filters, not only because of reports of poor quality on the internet, but because the O-ring with the filter is the wrong one for my bike. It is too small and will cause an oil leak from the cover if installed with the included O-ring. The O-ring supplied is actually for another GS model.
I have had good success with Hiflofiltro Oil Filters. They are high quality sturdily constructed filters that come with two O-rings, one of which is the right one for my bike. They are also reasonably priced at $3.99 each. Shipping is $6 for orders under $100 and free over $100.

Well, the stock Suzuki oil filter does not come with a front cover gasket so I accept that one that does is a bouns.
Regarding the filters themselves, I also accept that there are going to be differences but they are minor for the most part. Particularly filters on our GS bikes because there is no outside can, no pressure valve, etc.

Watch out on those Fram filters, the gaskets are junk! I ended up with a leak after I installed it the first time, had to do it over again and ended up reusing the old gasket, it was noticably thicker than the replacement that came with the Fram filter! No leaks since!!!!!

Fram filters and gaskets almost exclusively in almost 21 years and almost a quarter of a million miles on GS Suzuki shafties. Present GK has 111,000 miles, 86,000 of which are mine. I don't remember using any other oil filter besides Fram. Filters have always stayed together, never broken apart, never caused any engine damage.
Save your money. The filter brand doesn't make that much difference when we change the oil and filter as often as most of us do. Others may disagree, which is fine.

Poor Cheap Grandpa,
Thinks he's saving money by buying expensive Fram filters.:-D But at least they come with the right O-ring for shafties. If you don't have a shaftie, odds are it may not work.

Yes, Boondocks, I'm cheap, and proud of it. I'm also not as smart as you, which explains why I'm so dumb that I buy cheap oil filters which have worked just fine in my long experience with GS shafties.

The Hiflofiltro filters are the only ones on the market including OEM that are TUV and ISO certified for quality assurance.

How much are you paying for the Fram filters? Fram and "cheap" are not usually used in the same context. If a Fram filter costs more than the one I recommended, how is this being "cheap"?

I paid $15 for six Fram filters on eBay earlier this year. This included shipping. I was the only bidder. Usually it's Fram that's available.
The same way I get my brake pads, (another source of disagreement with His Majesty Boondocks), usually EBC's (but I've also bought Ferodos, Vesrahs, and generic ones). I enter the starting bid, and if I get it, fine; if not, no big deal.
Whatever's cheap and available and delivered to my front door.

I just noticed that you went back and edited the reference to me from your first post, so someone reading this thread for the first time wouldn't see the initial provocation. Nice work. Are you off your medication again?
I usually fail to plan ahead, and so I usually go with a Fram from Advance Auto or a Purolator from Pep Boys.
Granted, Fram filters are pretty close to junk, but how much filtering do you think is really needed on a vehicle that gets fresh oil and a new filter every 2,000 mile? Plus, it's a cartridge filter, so you don't have the extreme flimsiness of Fram's spin-on filters to deal with.
I do absolutely refuse to EVER use a Fram spin-on filter on my cars or other bike.
Of course, my engine may blow itself up tomorrow, choked to death on bits of the grocery bags, bar napkins and discarded Chinese newspapers Fram uses to make the filter material.
That's the risk I take for not planning ahead or making the trip to the cycle shop... where all they have is an orange wall of Frams.
The Pep Boys Purolators do seem to be good quality, and I've lately taken to using the filters from NAPA, which are likewise very nice as far as I can tell. Actually, I can't tell the least bit of difference between the Fram CH6000 filter and the NAPA/Wix 4931, other than the slightly nicer o-ring.
My other bike is a VX800 that uses a spin-on filter, and there are very noticeable differences between Fram (very flimsy and thin, poorly made threads and crimps, very lightweight) and the Purolator and Napa products.
It's worked fine so far.
Whenever I order parts, I grab a batch of Suzuki o-rings, so I don't generally use the Fram o-rings. I haven't had a problem when I have used the Fram o-rings, though.
YMMV... do whatever lets you sleep at night.
